Welcome
Hello! Welcome to my WEBSITE. I am delighted you stopped by! For the last 54 years, I have been an educator—first as a Montessori Kindergarten-First Grade teacher for 7 years. Then, after a two-year pause back in the Submarine Navy as an Assistant Navigator on a Fast Attack Nuclear Submarine, I came back to Cincinnati and “fell into a doctoral program focused on Curriculum and Instruction.” When I graduated, I was hired by Shawnee State University as a professor of Early Childhood Teacher Candidates. I taught there for 25 years. Certainly, I did a lot of writing of lesson plans and lectures, but no books. After I retired, I was reviewing a box full of old letters from my wife-to-be. As I read them, I saw they were quite literary, so I decided to put them into a book: METAMORPHOSIS OF A YOUNG MAIDEN.
In my late 70s, the University of Cincinnati hired me to teach a course, TEACHING AND LEARNING IN A DIVERSE CLASSROOM. The final exam for this course was an essay on each student’s MULTICULTURAL TEACHING PHILOSOPHY. In grading the students’ essays, I found 13 that were “pure gold,” so I composed them into my second book: A COMPANION READER FOR MULTICULTURAL AND DIVERSE EDUCATION COURSES.
For my third book, I WISH TO LIVE MY LIFE DELIBERATELY, I have lived a very diverse and adventurous life with many careers. In addition to my major careers as a teacher/professor, I spent 24 years in the U.S. Navy Submarine Reserves. I spent 11 years on the staff of the Admiral who commands all the submarines in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. They helped me to be promoted first to E8 Senior Chief Quartermaster, then to E9 Master Chief Quartermaster. Over the years, I have ridden 23 different submarines. I have been around the world twice by submarine and airplane. As a youth, I worked in construction on and off for five years, then I volunteered with the American Friends Service Committee. I supervised home repairs for persons in poverty, worked with persons resident in mental hospitals, and worked with persons incarcerated in prison.
